Sfânta Ana Monastery - details and images
The monastic settlement is a monastery of nuns. Located on Moşului Hill, it offers a unique landscape over Orșova and its surroundings. The monastery of Saint Ana was built between 1936 and 1939. This monastery has a troubled history, it was founded by the interwar journalist Pamfil Sheicaru who had a rank of sub-lieutenant during the First World War. During the war, Pamfil Sheicaru and Petre Găvănescu's comrade were on the verge of death just at the place where the Saint Ana Monastery is now located when a howitzer exploded near them. Both survived and in gratitude to God and in memory of all the heroes who fell for a Great Romania, Pamfil Sheicaru promised that he would erect a monastery in this place.
