"Vasile Fati" Botanical Garden in Jibou - details and images

The garden is organized into sectors, each sector groups the plants from a certain point of view, a complex of collecting greenhouses, of microproduction and research, an aquarium complex, a zoo and poultry park, a Japanese garden and a rosary. The works for the organization of the Jibou Botanical Garden began in the period 1959-1968, when V.Fati, professor of biology, together with the students and teachers manages to prove that the park in the surroundings of Wesselenyi castle, where the high school operates, is suitable for organizing a garden. botanical.
After three years it becomes an independent unit. Between 1974-1990 it operated under the name of the Resort of Young Naturalists. This being organized on the principle of pioneer houses, after the revolution it had to be restructured. For this purpose, a report was elaborated on the basis of which the Government of Romania approved the establishment of the Jibou Biological Research Center, within which the Botanical Garden is the main field of activity along with research, microproduction and museum and aquarist activities. Between 1968-1970 the first greenhouse of 110 m.p. through his own efforts: "the foundation for the first evening was poured with the help of students, administrative staff and teachers", remarks a witness of those times. Six other greenhouses were built, intended to accommodate the collections of tropical, subtropical and Mediterranean plants, two laboratories integrated in the greenhouse complex, a thermal power plant. Workers from the C.F.R. depot also assisted in these works. Between 1978-1982, the two greenhouses were built, the aquarium and the palmar, true architectural jewels, a spatial construction with an exceptional architecture. Also during this period, six micro-production greenhouses were built, intended for the production of cut flowers and pots for the purpose of their valorization through the point at the gate.
