Waterloo is a Francophone municipality in the Walloon region of Belgium. The total area of the commune is 21.03 km². As of January 1, 2008, the commune had a total population of 29,448 inhabitants.

Wellington Museum in Waterloo, Belgium is located in the house where the Duke of Wellington spent the night before and after the Battle of Waterloo (June 18, 1815). The museum contains information about the Dukes of Wellington, the Waterloo Campaign, the main phases of the Battle of Waterloo, and contemporary military artifacts of the armies that fought in battle.

The main attraction on the battlefield is Butte du Lion or Lion Mound. It is hard to miss this artificial hill that rises 40 meters above the surrounding country, covered with a massive bronze statue of a lion. Built after the war by workers carrying the land by hand, it commemorates Prince William of Orange, the prince of the Dutch crown who was wounded in the battle.
