Only a few kilometres from the German border, you will find the popular holiday region Kaiserwinkl, with its main resort Kössen (589 m). The cosy Tyrolean village is located north of the Unterberghorn and offers everything a winter sports fan’s heart desires. Kössen is especially suited for families and relaxed skiers, as well as for cross-country skiers. The self-named “family ski area” doesn’t only offer fun on the slopes: The lively centre invites guests to take a stroll or visit restaurants or cafes. Cosy huts are perfect for bringing the evening to an end. Action freaks can take advantage of snow tubing or paragliding, as well.

How to get thereBy car: From the north: Take the A8 motorway Munich - Oberaudorf (toll-free) - then from Kössen - Erpfendorf - Waidring (travelling time from Munich to Waidring approx. 1,5 hrs). From the west: Vienna - Salzburg - in the direction of Lofer, Kitzbühel (travelling time Vienna - Waidring approx. 3,5 hrs). By train: The nearest train-station is in St. Johann/Tyrol, then take the bus to Waidring. By plane: the nearest airports are in Salzburg (47 km) or Munich (150 km).

At the foot of the Astberg (1,267 m), surrounded by the Kitzbüheler Alps in the south, as well as the Wilder Kaiser in the North, is Going at 800 m altitude. The typically Tyrolean village has retained its special charm and invites you to relax. The Wilder Kaiser towers majestically over the resort, and some claim that the mountain range is at its loveliest here. Skiers will find a tremendous range of pistes on the mountain ridge from Astberg to Hohe Salve. The Going village church, dominating the townscape, is one of the loveliest rococo churches in Austria. A further highlight in Going: The famous Stanglwirt not only entices the in-crowd from Munich and Vienna, but is mainly known for its "Weißwurst" parties.

In the heart of the Zillertal lies the idyllic resort Aschau, between Kaltenbach and Zell am Ziller. The small, quiet village comprises the main part Aschau and some farm years and single houses along the mountain sides and valley basin. The central location is ideal for every skier, because from here you have the choice between 2 fantastic ski areas: Hochfügen-Hochzillertal and the Zillertal Arena, which are perfectly accessible via the free ski bus service. A special highlight is the new, illuminated valley descent. The toboggan run Lengstein is also illuminated and offer fun and action for the little ones. Tranquillity and relaxation can be found on an idyllic horse-drawn sleigh ride through the wintry landscape or in a sociable round in of the many, cosy mountain huts.

The romantic village of Schwendt lies at an altitude of around 700 m in the Kaiserwinkl holiday region. It is the nearest to the flanks of the Wilder Kaiser and is towered over by the Unterberghorn (1,773 m). Instead of mass tourism, here you will experience pure relaxation and rest. There are no large hotels, rather cosy, familiar pensions. The corresponding ski area Unterberghorn is easily reached from neighbouring Kössen (approx. 5 km) and has more then 30 kilometres of piste and 10 lifts, which transport you to the dominantly easy to medium runs. The rustic taverns offer a homelike and relaxed atmosphere and invite you in to feast and savour.

General informationHochfilzen, lying 1000 m above sea level and with 1100 inhabitants, is situated in the mountains close to a skiing area. Hochfilzen is a mountain village with an ideal high-altitude location and healthy climate in the middle of the Kitzbüheler Alps, the 'Leoganger' and the 'Loferer' moutains. It is also the venue of international biathlon events.

The Pass Thurn is located at 1,274 m altitude in the Kitzbühel Alps. The closest located resorts in the valley which connects Tyrol with Pinzgau, are Kitzbühel in the north and Mittersill in the south. The Alpine pass, which was formed by glaciers in the last ice age, is ideal for all enthusiasts of cross-country skiing and therefore provides a very special experience. At 1,250 m altitude lies the 10 km Hochmoor panoramic trail, which offers not only a great view of the Hohe Tauern but also romantic, white forests which emit a wonderful feeling of tranquillity. Skier and snowboarders will also find an ideal access point to the ski area of Kitzbühel here: the chair lift "Resterhöhe" takes you up the mountain in the blink of an eye. From Hollersbach you can take the panorama lift up to the mountain station.
