Ixtapa is a resort on the beach, located in the municipality of Azueta Zihuatanejo in the Mexican State of Guerrero. It is located 5 km north-west of the town's municipality of residence, Zihuatanejo, and at about 245 km from Acapulco. At the 2005 census, had a population of 6406 Ixtapa inhabitants. Ixtapa is a tourist resort planned by the government, whose construction began in the '70s was a land of coconut palm plantation and mangrove estuaries. In 1968, the Bank of Mexico created a special fund for the construction of new tourist area on the coast of the country and the first two were born resorts Cancun and Ixtapa.
