Approximately 80 km northeast of Sharm el Sheikh lies the small town  Dahab. Former a fishing village, the town is considered one of the most precious diving destinations in the area because of the famous place for diving: Blue Hole - a sort of underwater cave with a width of 50 m and a depth of 100 m. Following the Six Day War, the town was occupied by Israel and is known in Hebrew as Di-Zahav, a place mentioned in the Bible as one of the stations for the Israelites during the Exodus from Egypt. The Sinai Peninsula was restored to Egyptian rule in the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty in 1982.
