Bratislava

Bratislava is situated on the Danube, near the borders with Austria and Hungary, Slovakia and quite near the border with the Czech Republic. It is only 60 km from Vienna. In 1993, Bratislava became the capital city of the new Slovak Republic, formed after the Velvet Divorce (term used for the dissolution of Czechoslovakia into two independent countries: the Czech Republic and Slovakia, an event occurred on 01/01/1993) The city has a total area of 367.58 km ², being the second largest city in Slovakia (after the High Tatras). Danube crosses the city from west to south-east.

Štrbské Pleso is the highest ski resort in Slovakia, the highest resort in the Tatra Mountains and offers 9 km of light to moderately difficult ski slopes on the southern slopes of Predné Solisko. The high altitude of the resort (1360-1825 m) together with high quality snow systems offers excellent ski conditions.

The tourist centre of the High Tatra lies at the foot of the mountain massive Lomnický Štítam at an altitude of 850 m. The headquarters of the Tatra National Park is located in Tatranská Lomnica, which were appointed the biosphere reserve, by the UNESCO, together with the national park of the Polish neighbour. In the museum of the national park visitors can get to know the nature, its protection and the history of the national park. Further, Tatranská Lomnica offers the perfect entrance into the ski area: The gondola lift takes you to Skalnate Pleso on the Lomnicky stit (Lomnický Peak), the second highest peak of the High Tatra.

Jasná offers perfect winter sports conditions, which is proven by the resort having been the host for the Junior World Championship as well as for numerous further worldwide and European FIS challenges. Especially for children the area has to offer quite a few things: In MAXIland the small ones can experience their first steps in the snow on a 4,000 m²large area. With regards to the cultural aspect, the Janko-Kráľ museum in Liptovský Mikuláš, which reminds of the famous poet and romantic writer, is surely worth a visit. The wonderful panorama of the region, diverse skiing slopes as well as its special flair promise an enjoyable holidays.
