Benaki Museum in Athens - details and images

Already functioning as a museum and proved too small for its collections, the building was again changed and is still adding a wing, between 1988 and 1997. The last wing was added to a library, temporary exhibitions and a cafe.

Benaki Museum's original collections include works of ancient, Byzantine and post-Byzantine, Islamic and folk art and after 1974 were supplemented with historical and photographic archives, archives architectural neo-Greek, Greek art works and children's department.

Benaki Museum and the collection also has modern Greece that includes exhibits of great historical Greek culture and independence.

Benaki Museum can be visited on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays between the hours: 9:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Thursday between the hours: 9:00 - 24:00 and Sunday between the hours: 9:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Benaki Museum entrance fee is 6 EUR 3 EUR and for temporary exhibitions. Every Thursday and May 18, admission is free.
