History Museum of Bern - Historisches Museum-Bernisches is where you can spend whole days exploring the vast collections of ethnographic, archaeological and historical.

Downstairs there are temporary exhibitions, while the basement a collection theme: "Dance of Death." A medieval obsession of artists and others, this topic has sparked controversy but since Then are equally fascinated by the very gruesome.

The museum has, among other things, copies of paintings from 1516 - 1517 to decorate the Dominican monastery in the city wall, now destroyed. 24 is a sequence of vivid images that will surely thrill, but they will surely impress and finesse of execution, even if they are copies made in 1649. Elsewhere in the vast basement of the museum are reproduced inside the houses of the XVII - XVIII, very realistic and detailed.

Moving up to higher levels you will find portraits of the era depicting peasants and craftsmen, 280 Swiss, wearing traditional robes, made in the late eighteenth century as an ethnographic album. Mezzanine is dedicated to Islamic art, with a rich collection of weapons, pottery and even a mannequin wearing a uniform of a warrior from Turkestan.

On the first floor you will find an impressive model of the city of Berne in 1800 as it looks. You'll find this museum of medieval Flemish tapestries, and tapestry of a thousand flowers, piece de resistance of the collection. It is the latest in a set of eight tapestries made in Brussels in 1466 and stolen from Bern armies during wars in 1474-1474. More impressive are the collections of coins and medals, and the weapons, armor, shields and banners.

In addition to military life inspired collections, curators have reproduced on the upper floors more scenes of everyday life, painstakingly reconstructed and precision, from classrooms to the shops from different periods, musical instruments, furniture and more.
