Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, is a theater with an ancient history. It was designed by architect Joseph Bové, this unfolding ballet and opera. Bolshoi Ballet and Opera are among the oldest companies in the world of Opera and Ballet. Theatre is the parent company of The Bolshoi Ballet Academy, a world-leading ballet school.

The company was founded in 1776 by Prince Peter Urusov and Michael Maddox. Originally, the shows were held in a private house, but in 1780 he attained Petrovka Theatre and began producing plays and opera.

The present building was built in the Square Theater in 1824 to replace Petrovka Theatre, which was destroyed by fire in 1805. It was designed by architect Andrei Mikhailov, who built the nearby Maly Theatre in 1824.

At that time, all theaters of imperial Russia were property.

Theater in Moscow was inaugurated on 18 January 1825 with the song "Cinderella" by Fernando Sor. Initially, it only worked with Russian composers, but since 1840, entered the repertoire and foreign composers. A fire in 1853 caused extensive damage. Reconstruction was performed by Alberto Cavos son Catterino Cavos, an opera composer. Theatre was reopened in 1856. During the Second World War, the theater was damaged by a bomb, but was immediately repaired.

Bolshoy was the site of many historic firsts, such as: "The Voyevoda" and "Mazeppa" by Tchaikovsky, "Aleko" by Rachmaninoff and "Francesca" of Rimini.
