Dragoslavele hermitage - details and images

Dragoslavele Hermitage was founded in 1929 as residence for the rest patriarchal priesthood musceleana who built a villa here and that, meanwhile, gave a Patriarch Miron Cristea. To his protests against the communist regime some abusive actions by thousands of monks and nuns were expelled from monasteries, in 1959, Patriarch Justinian was sent to Dragoslavele Hermitage, where he was set for six months house arrest.

Between 1950-1960, in the monastic Dragoslavele worked at a school and church singers. Today the school of singers do not work, but there is still a patriarchal residence, and further fulfilling its original role.

Hermitage Church is made of wood, built as a faithful by Borsa Maramures - Maramures, in the late seventeenth century. The church is located on a high pedestal, built of stone boulders. It has wooden beams, walls outside. Entering the church is through a massive wooden door. The interior is divided into the sanctuary, the nave and the narthex, with beautiful carved iconostasis and pews. The church is covered with shingle roof with a very wide eaves, covering a porch built on the south side of the church and along its entire length. Very high tower, tapering, Maramures style, serves as a bell.
