Fagaras Museum - details and images

It was founded in 1923 based on ethnographic collection of Professor Valeriu Literat (1885-1972), leading representative of the cultural life of Fagaras, in the interwar period. At first the museum has functioned under the aegis of Fagaras "ASTRA", and Collector's custody, until 1951, when he was assigned a stable and received state institution status.

In 1973 the museum merged with the Department of the town museum, which had been founded since 1968, and affiliated in Fagaras Fortress, a time Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu.

Until 1981 it was named Museum Fagaras Fortress, and from this time and until 2004 was called "Fagaras Country Museum, and from 2004 to present Country Museum called" Valer Literat". Fagaras prestigious cultural institution, the Museum of Country "Valer Literat" was enriched with more valuable artifacts in time. The museum runs a continuous historical and ethnographic research in the area, the enrichment, conservation, and scientific heritage collected across the country Fagaras.

The mixed profile (history, ethnography and art), Museum of Country "Valer Literat" includes property or a large variety of collections, such as those of: archeology, weapons, coins, tiles, Romanian books, documents, Lapidary, decorative and plastic art, pottery, costumes, textiles, customs, icons, painted eggs, wood art, wood, bone, iron, handicrafts, etc.

The exhibition represents the evolution of civilization in Fagaras Country with documents and significant events.

Depending on the content or heritage, the museum's main exhibition was divided into three sections:

1. History Fagaras Country: archeology, medieval and modern era weapons (in the Tower dungeon)
2. Ethnography Olt Country: ceramics, fabrics, costumes, peasant interior, icons, etc..
