Gruuthuse Museum - details and images

Gruuthuse Museum is the largest complex of museums in Bruges and is located in the house which belonged to the family Gruuthuse Brugghe-van der Aa van. Gruut represent a mixture of flavors that are used to make beer.

Present collections of art and antiquities have been started in 1865 by the Archaeological Society of Burges, and in 1955 won the city council Bruges collection and extended it.

Sculptural art - the collection consists of objects of different materials: wood (crucifixes, altars, fragments of the church), ivory, stone and marble (baroque memorials English King Charles II). Furniture is here in various styles and types, some dating from the Gothic (chests and wardrobes). Most of the furniture dates from the seventeenth century and the eighteenth century and contains beautiful carved wooden ornaments.

Of silver - silver religious objects, and silver vessels were used for domestic purposes.

Metal vessels - kitchen (with original fireplace dating from the fifteenth century) can still be visited. The collection includes chandeliers, lamps, mugs, plates, etc..

Ceramics - The ceramic collection is huge and not fully exposed due to lack of space. Includes ceramics manufactured in the most important ceramic centers in Europe: Brussels, Delft, Northern France and Germany.

Textiles - the most beautiful tapestries are from the seventeenth century and are made in Bruges. Besides these collections can be visited numismatic collection and the collection of musical instruments.

The museum is open daily from 9:30 to 17:00 (it is closed every Monday).

Entry fee is EUR 9 for adults, 7 € for groups larger than 15 persons and EUR 1 for children between 6-25 years.
