Holidays in the Aeolian Islands the most beautiful things to see - details and images

In this article we take you to discover the Aeolian Islands, the beautiful Sicilian islands of volcanic origin, including ascending excursions to the discovery of craters and beaches still active and wonderful waters where you can spend relaxing days. The Aeolian islands can be reached by ferry or hydrofoils from Naples, Milazzo, Messina and Palermo. The closest airports are Catania, where there are also connections to the bus, Reggio Calabria and Palermo.

LIPARI
The largest island of the Aeolian Islands retains a unique charm for its complicated alleys and stairs, which take you from the streets of the center to the most picturesque streets. Light tones, dominated by clear blue water, are the most obvious feature of Lipari: the feeling is to be in a wonderful postcard. Back at the beach, we advise you to taste typical Lipari products in various delicacies and bars specializing in desserts. For an immersion in history, the Lipari Castle, unique in its view of the sea, is made up of a series of buildings, including the Aeolian Regional Archaeological Museum.

SALINA
The starting point for a visit as it should be in Salina is Santa Marina, the main port of the island and the touristic par excellence. This is where most of your nightlife takes place and here you can find great souvenir hunting shops. To the south, on the other hand, it is delightful Lingua, a small fishing village. This is the place where a large strip of land separates the sea from a small pond. From these areas the island takes its name. If you like the small traditional beaches, Malfa - the largest of the island's countries - is one with a tall and suggestive coastline.

VOLCANO
The name itself says so, so it will not surprise you to know that the first smell that will meet you on the island will probably be sulfur. This is because the Volcano is asleep. Benefiting from the particular structure of this island is very easy: there are sludge pools where you can sink to take advantage of its thermal properties. Vulcano Hiking offers a beautiful walk of about an hour that goes directly to the crater's mouth. Attention to high temperatures and leaking smoke: a guide will advise you on the behaviors to enjoy better this incomparable show.

STROMBOLI
It is certainly one of the most famous islands of the wind, but did you know that Stromboli is still an active volcano? Volcanic activity is very common, every 15 to 20 years, and that is why the island was called the light of the Mediterranean (because the lights of its eruptions were visible even at a distance). At night, the combination of colors and their reflections in the sea give rise to a spectacle of rare beauty. There are numerous excursions organized on the island to reach the top: you will find numerous shops for renting the necessary equipment. If you prefer to rest in the sun, the beautiful black beach of Ficogrande will surely be for you.

Filicudi
Filicudi is the most suitable place for sea lovers. The waters are crystalline and the coast is hidden here and there many small beaches, accessible by swimming or boat, where you can enjoy the sea in absolute relaxation and without too many people around. Just for the transparency of its waters, Filicudi is the ideal place for snorkeling: you will admire the unique and colorful background. Approximately half an hour's walk from the harbor is the prehistoric village of Capo Graziano: the traces of the first populations date back to 3000 BC. and here you will find fascinating ruins and an ancient sacrificial altar used by our ancestors.

Alicudi
In the wonderful panorama of the Aeolian islands, Alicudi is probably the purest treasure. In this small island you will not find large shops, but only small shops and small houses. For this reason, if you want to buy something, do not forget to make money because there are no ATMs on the island! The island is a hive of awesome ups and downs: long stairs lead up to the highest peaks of Alicudi that you can admire landscapes that will leave you breathless. If you are "hunters" sunsets, the rise of Harp is a trip that will take up to 675 meters high, the perfect place to watch the sunshine in the sea. Not far from the peak, we may see Timpone delle Femmine, an ancient place used to save the population from pirate raids.

Panarea
The small island of Panarea is, in fact, the oldest of the archipelago: inhabited since prehistoric times, it retains the traces of its past visited sites such as the prehistoric village of Milazzo Cape, one of the most important archaeological museums in the area. Panarea is generally called the island of VIPs: it is very common for our country's celebrities to choose to spend their holidays here. This is due to the fact that, in addition to offering clear waters and sandy beaches, Panarea has a very rich nightlife with fun places until late. The extensive versatility of the island provides an activity for all tastes: excursions, snorkelling and ultimately fantastic fish restaurants caught fresh. Simple flavors are always the best and this will captivate Panarea from the first to the last minute of your stay.
