Imperial Cannon and the Tsar Bell - details and images

Although theoretically supposed to be a redoubtable weapon, unstoppable, never worked, the building was wrong from the start. But still a beautiful work of art, especially the decoration in relief, depicting a lion among others (Russia) who wins a snake (the enemies of Russia). Tsar Bell is another example of Pharaonic art, with 200 tons and the largest in the world, but it could never be truly finished. A predecessor of only 130 tons was built in the mid-seventeenth century, was destroyed in a fire that ravaged Moscow in 1701.

Three decades later the Empress Anna ordered the pieces to be melted and cast a new bell to be larger, but which was destroyed during the work, in 1737. Only a century later the bell was completed and put into place where it can be admired today.

Bell Tower of Ivan the Great Bell called Tsar, also in the heart of the Kremlin, is 81 meters high and is said to mark the center of Moscow. The bell weighs 200 tons and is the largest in the world.

Imperial cannon - the most impressive in the world, weighs 40 tons and 5 meters long barrel. Built in 1586, this gun had to be a real weapon, but has never worked, its implementation is wrong from the beginning. However, it is impressive in size, as well as out-relief decoration, very beautiful.
