Lake Amara - Amara - details and images

The lake, situated on the road route Slobozia - Buzau village near Amara lake, is fed only by streams of water and little rainfall (arid climate) in the region.

Lake area reached 132 ha with a volume of 2.6 million cubic meters of water, a 4 km length and width between 200 and 800 m. Maximum depth: 3 m. The lake is located in a depression, having no connection with the river Ialomita by the lack of constant supply of fresh water all year round and by the evaporation due to dry climate the salt water concentration has increased.
Hypotonic water rich in salt lake as sulfates, bicarbonates, chlorides, iodides, bromides and magnesium salts, led to the formation of a therapeutic nature mud appreciated.

The therapeutic characters of the mud and lake water, compared to other spas in the country, were discovered later (1936), by then the surrounding population (1860-1864) used the water and mud for rheumatic diseases. After the Second World War buildings have been opened for tourism and it was arranged a beach on the shores of Lake Amara for sunbathing.
The first scientific study of lake water by chemical examination was carried out by the Romanian scientist Poni Petre in 1887, as the publications of that time he became known composition of black water and mud rich in sulfur, magnesium and sodium chloride.

Water and mud are shown in dermatological, respiratory, renal, endocrine, digestive, skeletal aparatulul rheumatic diseases, degenerative processes in joints, orthopedic diseases, or post-traumatic disorders, gynecological diseases as paralysis or some nerve paralysis.
