Marco Polo was a trader and an explorer of the Venetian Republic, which became known for his travels. Together with his father and uncle were among the first to have traveled the Silk Road to China.

Travels and his adventures became famous in the Middle Ages. Being among the first people who traveled to China, Marco Polo of the East met many important people such as Genghis Khan.

After he met with the Mongols, he returned to Venice with their having been sent Mongolian ambassador to the Pope.
