Monastery of Saint Andrew Cave - details and images

As the Cave of St. Andrew is known a religious institution (monastery) located in Dobrogea, near Ion Corvin, Constanţa. It is built around a cave where tradition says lived and popular Christianity, St. Andrew. The cave is located at more than 2 miles from the "Mihai Eminescu Drinking Fountain" at approx 4 km from Constanta highway - Ostrov.

Once during the Ottoman rule, the cave was forgotten, was rediscovered in 1943 by Father Constantine Lembrău, along with attorney John Dinu, because in 1944, the cave to be re-blessed and played worship, by building towers and a wall protection. But it is in limbo until after 1989, when restarting development work of the whole compound.

Only in 1990 Father Nicodemus Dinca, a monk from the monastery Hermitage, together with Father hieromonk Ghindaoanu Victorin, with the blessing of Lucian, have started building reamenjarea cave monastery.
The cave is the icon of Saint Andrew, known as the Christian apostle who lands north of the Danube. In the narthex, in a niche, there is a kind of bed, carved in stone, which is said was used by the Apostle Andrew to rest. In time there was a place where candles are lit. Currently, the monastery has a smaller church, built between 1994 - 1995, being blessed with the Holy Virgin Protection Day. A third church, the largest, was built between 1998-2002.
In the small church the relics of St. Andrew. It's an X-shaped cross, in front of the altar, on the left, and center is a part of the finger of St. Andrew, brought from Greece Trifiliei Metropolis.
