New Castle - Naples - details and images

Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino or, in Romanian New Castle) is the most famous building of the city.

Construction of the fortress was commissioned by King Charles I. of Anjou, who moved from Palermo to Naples court.

It was built between 1279-1282 with the help of French architects.

It remained the royal residence until 1734, when King Charles III moved into the newly built near the royal palace fortress.
