Romanian National Opera in Cluj - details and images
It was built in the early twentieth century by the famous Viennese Felnner & Helmer firm specializing in the design and construction of theaters, representing, in terms of architecture, an attempt to introduce a secessionist style, easy barochizant.
Romanian Opera in Cluj was founded on 19 September 1919, is the oldest institution in Romania lyrical-dramatic. Under the leadership of leading artistic personalities, tenor Paul Constantine, Tango Egisto Italian conductor, composer Tiberiu Brediceanu baritone Dimitrie Popovici-Bayreuth, were overcome in a few months, the difficulties related to the actual composition of a whole opera.
The first performances were two symphonic concerts, on 13 and 14 May 1919, under the leadership of conductor Oskar Nedbal. The inaugural show took place on 25 May 1920, the opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, led by conductor Alfred Novak, the artistic director of the institution's first director, Paul Constantine, the first interpreter of the role of Radames.
Since its establishment until today, the Romanian Opera in Cluj was presented more than 200 titles from operas, operettas and ballets from the repertoire of Romanian and universal, showing a wide opening to all schools and styles, from Mozart's operas (Marriage of Figaro, Magic Flute Don Juan, Cosi fan tutte), Beethoven, Cimarosa and Weber, by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi (Aida, La Traviata, Riggletto, Troubadour, Masked Ball, Ernani, Otello, force of destiny, Don Carlo, Falstaff, Nebuchadnezzar) , Dargomîjski, Moniuszko, Wagner (Tannhauser, Lohengrin, Tristan and Isolde, Walkiria, Flying Dutchman, singing masters of Nuremberg), Bizet, Massenet, MEYERBEER, Tchaikovsky (Eugene Onegin, Mazeppa, Queen of Spades, Swan Lake, Nutcracker) , Puccini (Turandot, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, Tosca, Manon Lescaut, triptych, Western Front), Saint-Saens, Mascagni (Cavalleria rusticana, masks), Musorgski (Boris Godunov), Prokofiev (engagement at the monastery, the ballets Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet), Leoncavallo, Humperdinck, Britten, Suchon, operettas and ballets to the representative.
Romanian Opera House and the team were recognized for exceptional artistic qualities, but also separate the worthy group of ballet - winner of International Ballet Contest in Iasi, edition 1992, and Chamber Orchestra and Baroque Ensemble "Transylvania", consisting of those excellent orchestra orchestra's instrumental work.
