Rooster's Crest - details and images

It's called the "Roster's crest" because it resembles a gigantic cock crest. But beyond the easily intuitive origin of the name, the crest of the Gutâi Mountains has a special significance: it is the last remnant - and the most spectacular - of a volcanic crater that erupted 9 million years ago here, in the place we call today Maramureș .

The image of the ridge, if you look at it from below - from tens of kilometers away or from its foothills - is unforgettable: rocky, seeded, crenellated, stretching over 200 meters long. If, however, you make the effort to climb to its peak, at 1,200 meters, and turn your eyes around, you will have the Maramures himself lying at your feet. You will probably promise to return sometime.

Tourists will find here, in the Rooster's Crest Reservation, not only hiking trails, but also places for mountaineering and climbing; for paragliding; to follow, from the bird watcher, the avian fauna; for ski touring; and, of course, to take pictures.
