Rudăria - details and images

The water mill that adorns the Rudărica river for about three kilometers represents the largest and most spectacular water mill chain in southern Europe. The 22 historical monuments at the foot of the Almaju Mountains are considered to be some of the most important tourist attractions in Banat Montan, and beyond.
Rudarens have learned to grind cereals in such wooden constructions with special installations hundreds of years ago. In 1772, eight mills were registered in Rudăria, but this method of grinding wheat has been used since the 2nd - 3rd centuries. One hundred years later, in 1874, Rudăria had 51 water mills, but because of the floods of 1827, 1941 and 1955, more than half of the mills were destroyed.
The mills are part of the UNESCO patrimony, bearing the name of the builder, of the place where they are located or of a "head-family": "Blindness on the wall", "Mill in Tarina", "Mill with Tunnel", "Popascu", etc. . As in Dacian times, the residents of Rudăria still grind corn and wheat by the technique of milling stone. The villagers report that the flour obtained in this way is special and has a special taste. Rudăria locality, now Eftimie Murgu, is located a few kilometers from Bozovici.
