Schönbrunn Palace - details and images

Schönbrunn, the former summer residence of the imperial family, is among the most beautiful baroque palaces in Europe. In its countless rooms Habsburg family lived in most of the year. In 1830 Emperor Franz Joseph was born here, who married the charming Sisi and reigned from 1848-1916. The monarch spent his last years of life only at the palace, which went into administration just two years of the new republic after his death. Today, the palace is part of UNESCO world heritage site because of its historical importance, its unique and splendid location or furniture.

The palace has 1441 rooms, of which only 45 can be visited. Furniture and rococo interior decorations (especially white stucco ornaments 14 karat gold leaf) are complemented by Bohemian crystal chandeliers and porcelain stoves.

Accommodation and the work of Emperor Franz Joseph (see photo) are simple and ornamented, seem even more luxurious rooms and the entertainment of guests. Hall of Mirrors has performed Mozart when he was a child prodigy, aged only six years.

The Chinese cabinet, round, Maria-Theresa kept his secret conferences with Prince Kaunitz, the chancellor of the state. The room has lectured Lacque Vieux-Napoleon himself. In Chinese Salon, decorated in blue, Emperor Karl I signed his abdication from the throne in 1918 (the end of monarchy). Millionen room, paneled with rosewood and decorated with valuable miniatures made in India and Persia are among the most beautiful rococo rooms of all time. In the Grand Gallery of the Congress held in Vienna from 1814 to 1815, today serves as a special occasion formal setting of the arrivals at the state level.
