Skansen Kronan - details and images

Skansen is a redoubt Kronan Hague District Gothenburg, Sweden. Crown Fortress is located on a hill southwest of downtown and was built in the seventeenth century. In the nineteenth century served as a prison and now houses a military museum.

Kronan Skansen was built in the second half of the 17th century, in 1687, after plans by Erik Dahlberg. Skansen Kronan was introduced in 1698 and 23 guns were mounted. The roof was not completed until 1700. Together with other buildings such as Elvsborgs Fästning, Gothenburg Marstrand was considered to be protected. This rang true conception.

Skansen is 4-5 m thick walls of granite, gneiss and diabase. Skansen Kronan was not attacked, and canons of the interior were never used.

Fortress and the two children, Skansen Lejonet were built as part of defense against a possible attack on the Danish side south of Gothenburg, and thus had a similar purpose as Älvsborg City.

City - was originally built outside the city walls, and today is located in downtown Gothenburg, on a hill in the district of The Hague. It was used as a military museum until 2004. Today Kronan Skansen is intended for conferences and private parties.
