Velvet Fortress - Kadifekale - details and images

According to legend, the general fell asleep on the hill and dreamed that two goddesses told him to found a city on those sites because its inhabitants will have a long and prosperous life. General leads to fulfilling that dream in 302 BC

Since the city fell to the Romans in 133 BC, today we can see influences of both the Roman and Byzantine ones. Around Pagos hill are the ruins of aqueducts, stadium, amphitheater and the agora. Castle can be seen today has five towers and walls in the south, the latter being restored by the Byzantines, Seljuks and Ottomans. Eventually the castle was abandoned and only after the eighteenth century began to be inhabited again.
