Scattered across eight hectares of lush gardens, 74 villas blend into the landscape — each with a private pool, open-plan living, soft natural light and the warm breeze of the Indian Ocean drifting through.
The design speaks the local language: raw textures, clean lines, artisanal touches. Inside, everything is simple, natural and beautifully made. The rooms are calm, comfortable and quietly luxurious — more sanctuary than suite.

Matemwe Attitude is part of a new kind of hospitality - one that places impact at the heart of everything. As part of a B Corp certified group, the hotel works hand-in-hand with local communities, using locally sourced materials, supporting Zanzibari artisans and celebrating the island’s rich creative spirit. Most of the furniture, finishes and fittings come directly from the island itself.
And that care extends to the environment. There’s no single-use plastic in the guest experience, toiletries are 100% natural and vegan, and water and energy are used mindfully. Solar already powers 50% of the property, with a goal of reaching 80% by 2028. Behind the scenes, the team is mostly local, trained in-house and deeply involved in the day-to-day life of the place.
