Doha, capital of Qatar and one of the municipalities, is located in the Persian Gulf. It is the largest city in Qatar concentrating 80% of its population (according to 2008 census lived in Doha and its suburbs with 998,651 people).
The city of Doha was founded in 1825, then bearing the name Al-Bida. Doha name comes either from the Arabic word "ad-dawha" translated "great tree" or the word "dohat" - bay or strait in Arabic.
Doha is the economic center of the country and hosts the Government of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin headed by Sheik Khalifa Al Thani. Have their headquarters in Doha largest oil companies in the country, including Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas and RasGas. The economy is based almost exclusively on income from the oil industry and the government of Qatar is trying to diversify. As a result, Doha is currently experiencing a boom, the city is developing a rapid pace.
The city of Doha is a mixture of traditional Arabic and modern architecture. Among the most interesting sites include the Great Mosque, with its many domes, Abu Bakir al-Siddiq Mosque and traditional village located on the cornice in the park of Rumelia, where tourists can buy fabrics, beads and enjoy a traditional boat (dhow in Arabic ). Here, incidentally, is related festivals and activities.
But the most important atrctie of Qatar is "Palm Island" which can be reached in just five minutes by boat. Bordered by fine sandy beaches, the island is an oasis of tranquility. Tourists and locals rent boats or relax the traditional sun, seaside cafes and restaurants in Marin.
In Doha shopping is a major concern for leisure and can expect lower prices than Dubai. Like most cities in the Middle East, be prepared to negotiate.
