Despite its northern latitude, close to that of Moscow, Glasgow's climate is classified as oceanic. This is influenced by its location and proximity to the western sea. Here temperatures are normally higher than in most areas of similar latitude due to the confluence of the warm Gulf Stream.

Today Glasgow City land has been inhabited since prehistoric times. However, Glasgow's first mention of that city by itself, from the medieval era when that was recorded as the second largest diocese in Scotland.

Glasgow City today is one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan destinations in Europe. Glasgow hosts world-renowned art collection, the largest shopping centers in the United Kingdom (except London) and a vibrant nightlife.

Glasgow, the city has developed on a background of Victorian architecture, is packed with the best-known works Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

It is also the largest shipbuilder in the region and since 1451, Glasgow is a major academic center.
