About Haifa - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Haifa is the main urban metropolis in northern Israel, the capital of the district of the same name. Haifa is a port with a long history, its first mention in documents dating from the third century before the Christian era. Next to Ashdod and Eilat it is one of the main ports of Israel. In ancient Haifa there lived a mixed population, Jews together with other peoples. In the Middle Ages, Haifa appeared as a small port, defended from all sides. Over time, the forts were destroyed, now appearing only as a symbol of the city. In the 19th century, the city became larger and more important also due to the contribution of the Lutheran community of the German Templars.
Haifa, is likened by some as "San Francisco of Israel". Although traditionally a functioning city, there are a number of great things to do in Haifa, including the Bahai Gardens, the German colony, as well as a number of top museums. The city is also known in Israel for its mixed population of Jews and Arabs who coexist peacefully, and the result is some amazing fusions of Arab and Jewish cultures in the city.
Haifa | Haifa is the third largest city in Israel - after Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Haifa is part of the Haifa Metropolitan Area, the second or third most populous metropolitan area in Israel.
