From the peak of the Gränjesvålen you can let your sight swipe over vast, snowy plains, thick forests, right up to distant mountains of Norway, far away at the horizon. From the peak of this mountain in Idre Fjäll, Sweden's largest ski resort, you can descend back to the valley in all 4 directions. This picturesque resort may be a post card motive. The historic province Dalarna, located approx. 30 km from the border to Norway, leaves no expectations or wishes unfulfilled: you will find the typical red wooden houses and the thickly forested areas. Idre Fjäll is a popular destination both in summer and winter, mostly for activity seekers, and not only due to the beautiful, surrounding landscape. There are numerous possibilities to send your time here: enjoy excursions into nature - on skis or on snowshoes, with a dog sledge or on a snow mobile. Indulge into the culture of the Sami people - e.g. by visiting a typical "Kote", the traditional accommodation of the local people. And treat yourself to the local specialities of the area.

In idyllic Idre Fjäll, active apres ski is more focused on, rather than partying. Families can get together in the ski area, in "Charlie's", for family apres ski. In the restaurant "Värdshuset" there is a live band called "Hat over Hills" that play there from Mondays to Saturdays. Or you can enjoy a hot drink in a very special atmosphere: The "Vildmarksnästet" provides an open fireplace and a rustic interior design and therefore a very special charm. In the resort itself there are numerous possibilities to let the day come to an end with a good meal. Tasty specialities such as elk fillet can be enjoyed at the "PW kök & bar". A highlight: you are surrounded by medals and honours of the Swedish skiing legend Pernilla Wiberg (double Olympic Champion, 4-times World Champion).

The landscape around Idre Fjäll is too beautiful to miss out on exploring it. Lace your snowshoes and go on a hiking tour to one of the traditional Sami huts. When participating in one of the organised tours you can additionally enjoy a traditional meal and listen to the tales of the indigene people. Go on an snowmobile tour, or try yourself at dog sledging - or maybe even dare a try on the snow cat. Test yourself at lasso throwing and possibly catch a reindeer. All these activities are organised for you locally.

Of course the little ones are also catered to! There is a special entertainment programme for them with apres ski games, mini disco, story hours and handicraft afternoon. With the "Askerkortet" card (only €20) you can choose from various event for kids to take part in, and you can also go an an exciting bob-sleigh ride.

If you rather want to spend your time with classical sports offers, you have the chance to do that as well. There is a sports centre in Idre Fjäll where you can find and indoor pool with sauna area, a bowling alley, a climbing wall, football, basketball, badminton and tennis courts. Last, but not least Idre Fjäll can also offer great music events: if you venture over to Älvdalen you can visit the museum of the guitar builder Hagström. Elvis Presley and Frank Zappa for instance, loved to play these guitars.
